Choose exact pixel dimensions, a capped enlargement preset or JPEG re-encoding, then inspect the derivative for its intended placement.
Choose dimensions before choosing a format
Start from the original vector or largest authorized raster master. Enter the placement dimensions in Custom size when exact sizing matters. Maintain aspect ratio fits the source within the requested bounds; turning it off can stretch the image. If browser dimensions are unavailable, enter known dimensions yourself or use a mode that does not require them.
Sizing arithmetic and the enlargement cap
Illustrative arithmetic: 400 source pixels across a four-inch placement provide 100 source pixels per inch. If your chosen recipient requests 200 pixels per inch at that placement, the derivative needs 800 pixels across. Changing resolution metadata does not create detail. These numbers explain the calculation, not a print-quality recommendation.
The enlargement preset uses scale = min(4, 4096 / longest source edge), with rounded output dimensions and sharpening. A 400 × 200 source becomes 1600 × 800; a 2000 × 1000 source is capped at 4096 × 2048; an 8000 × 4000 source is reduced to 4096 × 2048. These are calculations from the preset, not newly measured output examples. There is no 2× or 8× selector. Compare stroke widths, halos, fringing and transparent edges before retaining the PNG.
PNG, JPEG and WebP solve different delivery tasks
- For a PNG copy, choose Custom size and PNG. Keep the known original dimensions if resizing is unnecessary. PNG uses lossless compression, but it does not remove opaque background pixels or recover information lost in an earlier JPEG or WebP encoding.
- For a JPEG-only destination, choose White-matte JPEG when you need explicit white compositing without resizing. It uses fixed quality 98, 4:4:4 subsampling and progressive encoding. Custom size JPEG is a separate quality-90 operation; it does not establish the same white matte.
- For a WebP derivative, choose Custom size, enter the required dimensions and select WebP. This workflow uses quality 90, not a lossless-mode selector. Inspect edges and colors and compare actual file bytes; conversion does not guarantee smaller files or better page metrics.
- For JPEG or WebP to PNG, decode and re-encode the file rather than taking a screenshot. PNG encoding does not introduce the earlier lossy compression again, but resizing can still alter pixels and source metadata may not survive.
A web delivery fallback, such as a separately prepared PNG used with a picture element, belongs in the consuming website. This tool creates an image derivative, not the website markup. Keep animated originals: these actions provide static derivatives, not animation assembly or preservation.
Existing SVG and TIFF sources
Upload an SVG directly for a raster derivative. Choose Custom size for PNG, JPEG or WebP at requested dimensions; choose White-matte JPEG for its separate fixed re-encoding behavior. No tracing or PNG intermediate is required for that JPEG mode. AI and EPS need a compatible editor export first. Keep the SVG master and compare fonts, effects, transparency and colors after rasterization.
The older SVG-to-PNG action chooses dimensions on the server and may need a separate resize afterward. Its outputs are not evidence for Custom size or the enlargement preset. Inspect the actual dimensions of the file produced by the action you used rather than borrowing another tool’s example.
Keep TIFF as an archive master when its pages, bit depth or color information matter. A PNG or JPEG distribution copy is not proof that all TIFF properties were retained. TIFF may be submitted when a browser preview fails, but decoding is file-dependent. Multipage preservation, arbitrary color profiles and bit depths are not established here; check the downloaded file in suitable software and retain the master.
What the packs contain
The favicon pack provides small icon derivatives. The business pack generates square PNG and JPEG sizes of 256, 512, 768, 1024, 1500 and 2000 pixels. It includes the original SVG only when SVG was uploaded; a raster upload does not create vector paths. Contain padding does not erase an opaque source background. The OG preset generates a 1200 × 630 canvas. These are tool presets, not universal supplier requirements.
Inspect the actual derivative
Read the output dimensions and compare the result at its intended placement size. A paired preview is useful for inspection but does not measure fidelity. Check fine lettering, stroke widths, alpha edges and white-matte appearance on the intended background. When preview decoding fails, use the available download and inspect it in a compatible application. A larger file or a successful download does not establish restored detail, improved tracing or print readiness.
