Sublimation printers accept raster files (PNG, JPEG) but resolution becomes a limitation when scaling artwork up. A PNG designed at 300 DPI for a 5x5 inch area becomes pixelated when scaled to fill a 15x20 inch panel. Vectorizing the image first eliminates the resolution constraint — the SVG scales to any size without quality loss.
For text-heavy sublimation designs: always vectorize text elements so letter edges stay perfectly crisp regardless of substrate size. For illustrated designs: vectorize the core graphic elements and combine with high-resolution raster backgrounds if needed.
Sublimation workflow with vector files: vectorize the image and download the SVG. Open in Illustrator or Inkscape. Set the document to the substrate dimensions (e.g., 11oz mug template or 8x10 inch panel). Position and scale the vector artwork to fit. Export as PNG at 300 DPI for the sublimation RIP software or design service.
