The Cricut Maker 3 is Cricut's most powerful cutting machine, capable of cutting over 300 materials including thick leather, balsa wood, and craft foam at double the speed of previous Maker models. SVG files work identically across Maker 3 and other Cricut models — all processing happens in Design Space.
SVG compatibility: the Cricut Maker 3 reads SVG files through Cricut Design Space exactly as other Cricut machines do. Upload SVGs via the Design Space Upload tool, assign materials, and send to the machine.
Maker 3-specific advantages: the Maker 3 supports Smart Materials — these feed directly without a cutting mat for cuts up to 12 feet long. For Smart Material cutting, your SVG should contain clean, optimised paths to ensure consistent cutting across long material runs.
Adaptive tool system: the Maker 3 supports 13+ blade and tool types including the Knife Blade (for thick materials), Rotary Blade (for fabric), and scoring tools. For complex SVG designs on thick materials, ensure paths are closed and all overlap regions are resolved before cutting.
Cutting matless with Smart Materials: SVG files for matless Smart Material cutting need to be sized accurately before sending to Design Space — the machine will cut exactly to the SVG dimensions. Verify actual cut size in Design Space before printing.
Material pressure and blade depth: these are assigned in Design Space per layer based on the material selection. The SVG structure (path type and layer) determines the operation; material settings in Design Space control the physical cutting parameters.
