About How to use SVG files with Cricut

SVG is the primary file format for Cricut machines. Here is how to upload, use, and cut SVG files in Cricut Design Space on any Cricut model (Maker, Explore, Joy).

Uploading SVG to Design Space: in Cricut Design Space, click Upload (left sidebar). Click Upload Image. Select your SVG file from your computer. Cricut processes the SVG and shows a preview. Select Cut Image as the upload type. Click Upload. The SVG appears in your Recent Uploads library.

Adding SVG to your canvas: open Recent Uploads (click Upload again). Click the SVG image, then Insert Images. The SVG appears on the canvas with each colour as a separate layer in the Layers panel.

Resizing and positioning: select all layers (click the group in the Layers panel or Ctrl+A on canvas). Use the bounding box handles to resize. SVG is vector — resize without quality loss. Lock aspect ratio using the lock icon in the top toolbar.

Managing colour layers: each SVG colour appears as a separate mat for cutting. Assign the material per layer in the Make It screen. Cut each colour from different vinyl or cardstock.

Attaching layers for positioning: if SVG contains multiple layers that need to cut in exact position on one mat, select all layers and use Attach (to keep positions on one mat). Without Attach, Design Space rearranges layers for material efficiency.

Compatible Cricut models for SVG: all Cricut Maker (1, 2, 3), Explore (Air, Air 2, 3), and Cricut Joy models accept SVG files via Design Space.
