About SVG for Cricut Explore Air 2
The Cricut Explore Air 2 is a widely used Cricut cutting machine that works with SVG files through Cricut Design Space. It supports vinyl, cardstock, iron-on, paper, light leather, and over 100 other materials. All SVG handling is identical across Explore models.
SVG file requirements for Explore Air 2: upload SVG via Design Space > Upload > Upload Image > select SVG > select Cut Image. The Explore Air 2 reads all standard SVG features: filled shapes, stroke paths, and multiple colour layers.
Speed: the Explore Air 2 supports 2x speed mode for compatible materials (vinyl, iron-on). Enabling 2x speed does not affect SVG file requirements — it changes the physical cutting speed only.
Blade types: the Explore Air 2 uses Fine Point Blade for most materials and Deep Point Blade for heavier cardstock, leather, and chipboard. The blade type is assigned in Design Space per material — no change to SVG is required.
Cutting mat sizes: the Explore Air 2 uses 12×12 and 12×24 cutting mats. Design your SVG within these dimensions. In Design Space you can scale the SVG to fit any mat size.
Multi-layer SVG on Explore Air 2: designs with multiple SVG colour layers appear in Design Space as separate layers on separate mats. Each mat uses a different material or vinyl colour. Cricut prompts you to swap material between mats during the cut job.
Common issue: white-filled areas in SVG uploading as separate cut layers — set fill to none (transparent) instead of white for background areas you do not want cut.
