Print shops and production vendors require vector files for two reasons: quality and flexibility. Raster images (PNG, JPG) are bounded by their pixel count and degrade when scaled beyond their native resolution. Vector files (SVG, EPS, AI) scale infinitely without quality loss, and their color regions can be separated for multi-color print processes.
Vectorizing for large format print: the SVG can be exported at any physical size at 300dpi without any upscaling artifacts. A 500×500px PNG logo can only print acceptably at about 1.5 inches wide. The same logo converted to SVG prints cleanly at any size from a business card to a building wrap.
Vectorizing for screen printing: color-separated SVG files allow each ink color to be printed as a separate layer. The vectorizer identifies distinct color regions and creates separate paths for each — exactly what screen printing prepress requires.
Vectorizing for embroidery: embroidery machines use vector paths as stitch guides. The SVG outlines become the embroidered shapes. Clean, simplified paths produce better stitch quality — avoid overly complex SVGs with thousands of anchor points for embroidery workflows.
