How to Attach SVG in Cricut Design Space
Attach in Cricut Design Space locks the relative position of selected layers together so they cut in the same position on the cutting mat. Without Attach, Design Space rearranges layers automatically to minimise material waste.
About How to attach SVG in Cricut Design Space
Attach in Cricut Design Space locks the relative position of selected layers together so they cut in the same position on the cutting mat. Without Attach, Design Space automatically rearranges layers in the Make It screen to minimise material waste — this changes where your design cuts relative to your material.
When to use Attach: Attach is required when positioning text over a shape to cut in exact alignment, placing multiple design elements that must cut at precise relative positions, and ensuring a design cuts at a specific location on pre-printed or pre-cut material.
How to Attach in Design Space: arrange all layers on the canvas in the positions you want them to cut. Select all layers to be attached (Shift-click each in the canvas or use Select All). Click Attach (bottom of Layers panel). Attached layers appear as a single mat group in the Make It screen — their positions are locked relative to each other.
Attach vs Weld: Attach locks positions and preserves individual cut paths (each layer still cuts separately as a distinct path). Weld merges overlapping paths into one unified path.
Detach: to remove an Attach group, select the attached group in the Layers panel and click Detach. Layers return to individual layers that Design Space can rearrange.
Practical example: place a star SVG inside a circle SVG on the canvas. Without Attach, Design Space may cut the star and circle in different areas of the mat. With Attach, both cut in exactly the positions shown on the canvas.
