About Convert PNG to DXF

DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is the standard vector format for CNC routing, laser cutting, plasma cutting, and CAD software including AutoCAD and Fusion 360. Converting PNG to DXF requires a vectorization step — PNG is a raster format and DXF needs vector path data.

The two-step workflow: first, upload your PNG to the vectorizer to produce a clean SVG with defined paths. Then open the SVG in Inkscape (free) and export as DXF using File > Save As > DXF. Inkscape's DXF export produces paths compatible with most CNC and CAD workflows.

For CNC and laser cutting, the SVG paths need to be single outlines (not filled shapes). After vectorizing, simplify the paths in Inkscape and convert fills to strokes before exporting to DXF. This ensures the CNC software reads each path as a cut line rather than a fill region.

For logos and artwork intended for routing or engraving, reduce the number of anchor points before DXF export. Fewer anchor points produce smoother tool paths and faster machine operation. Use Inkscape's Path > Simplify function to reduce node count.

Most CNC software accepts DXF R14 or R2000 format — these are the most compatible versions to target during Inkscape DXF export.
