About Convert clipart to SVG

Cricut Design Space and Silhouette Studio both natively support SVG import for cuttable designs. While both apps can import PNG images, raster PNGs cannot be used as cut files — the machine needs vector paths to cut around. Converting clipart to SVG solves this by producing the vector cut paths the machine reads.

Types of clipart that vectorize well: — Flat design clipart with solid color fills and clear outlines: excellent results. — Line art clipart (black outlines on white): excellent results using single-color trace. — Cartoonish characters with bold shapes and few colors: good results. — Detailed photorealistic clipart: complex results with many paths — may need cleanup.

For Cricut Design Space: 1. Vectorize the PNG clipart and download the SVG. 2. Upload to Cricut Design Space: click Upload > Upload Image > Browse and select the SVG. 3. Design Space automatically imports SVG as a vector cut file. 4. Use Ungroup to separate color layers. Edit individual layers as needed.

For Silhouette Studio: 1. Download the SVG from the vectorizer. 2. In Silhouette Studio: File > Import. Select the SVG. 3. Assign cut lines to the relevant paths.

Note: if clipart is purchased or downloaded, verify the license allows derivative use (SVG conversion and cutting for personal or commercial use).
