How to Prepare a Logo for Print

Preparing a logo for professional print output involves four steps: vectorizing the raster logo, setting the correct colour mode, configuring bleed and safety margins, and exporting as a press-ready PDF.

About Prepare logo for print

Step 1 — Vectorize the logo. If the logo exists only as a PNG or JPG, upload it to the Logo Vectorizer to convert it to a scalable SVG. Vector logos print crisply at any size; raster logos pixelate when enlarged beyond their source resolution.

Step 2 — Set the colour mode. For offset and digital printing, use CMYK colours. For screen printing and digital display, RGB is acceptable. Import the SVG into Illustrator and convert colours as needed. For Pantone brand colours, match the fills to the nearest Pantone equivalent in the Swatches panel.

Step 3 — Configure document and bleed. If the logo is part of a printed document (business cards, letterhead, packaging), set up the document at final trim size with 3mm bleed on each edge that will be cut. The logo itself should sit within the safe zone — at least 5mm from the trim edge.

Step 4 — Export as PDF. Export the design as PDF/X-1a for offset print, or standard high-quality PDF for digital print. Embed all fonts. Flatten transparency if the design contains any blend modes or transparency effects.

For quick logo delivery, the vectorized SVG file itself is increasingly accepted by modern print services. Always check with the print supplier what formats they accept before investing time in PDF export.
