About PNG to SVG for embroidery

Embroidery digitizing converts a logo design into stitch instructions: stitch type, direction, sequence, and density. Digitizing software (Wilcom, Hatch, Embird) imports vector files — typically SVG, AI, or EPS — and uses the path outlines to define where and how stitches are placed.

Why PNG does not work directly for embroidery: a PNG file is a grid of pixels with no path information. Digitizing software cannot read a PNG as a vector source — it either requires manual re-tracing or uses raster-to-stitch conversion which produces lower quality output than a clean vector source.

Converting PNG to SVG for embroidery: upload the PNG logo to the Logo Vectorizer. The AI tracer extracts the shape outlines and converts them to SVG paths. The resulting SVG defines each colour region as a closed path — exactly the data format embroidery digitizing software needs.

Simplifying for embroidery: after converting PNG to SVG, review in Inkscape or Illustrator. Remove design details smaller than 2mm at the intended embroidery size — they will stitch as solid blobs. Simplify complex path areas using the simplify function. Ensure all colours are flat fills with no gradients.

Delivering to the digitizer: provide the SVG along with: intended embroidery dimensions, colour legend with thread colour references (Madeira, Robison-Anton, Isacord), and any notes about fill direction preferences. The digitizer handles the rest.
