WebP is an efficient modern image format, but many design tools, print workflows, and older applications cannot process WebP files directly. Converting WebP to PNG gives you a universally compatible lossless image.
Modern image editors including Photoshop (with plugin), GIMP, and browser-based tools can open and convert WebP to PNG. The conversion is visually lossless if the source WebP was encoded in lossless mode, or near-lossless if it was lossy-compressed.
For logos and icons in WebP format, converting to PNG is typically the first step before further editing, vectorizing, or uploading to design tools. Most professional design applications including Illustrator, Figma, and Sketch accept PNG but have limited WebP support.
When converting animated WebP files, only the first frame is preserved in a static PNG export. To preserve animation, export to APNG or GIF format instead using a dedicated animated image converter.
For best conversion quality, use a lossless WebP-to-PNG tool rather than screenshot-based methods. FFmpeg, ImageMagick, and browser DevTools can all perform reliable WebP-to-PNG conversions from the command line or without specialized software.
After authorized SVG export, use a separate downstream tool to create PNG and inspect that file for the intended workflow.
