Convert PDF to SVG for Cricut
Cricut Design Space does not accept PDF files directly. Converting PDF designs to SVG lets you upload them to Design Space as cut files. The method depends on whether the PDF contains vector paths or embedded raster images.
About Convert PDF to SVG for Cricut
Cricut Design Space does not accept PDF files directly. To use a PDF design in Cricut, you need to convert it to SVG format first. The method depends on whether the PDF contains vector paths or embedded raster images.
For vector PDFs (designs created in Illustrator, Affinity Designer, or CorelDRAW): open the PDF in Inkscape. Inkscape imports vector PDF paths natively. Select all elements (Ctrl+A), then File > Save As > Plain SVG. Upload the SVG to Cricut Design Space via Upload > Upload Image > select the SVG file.
For raster PDFs (scanned designs or image-only PDFs): export the PDF page as a high-resolution PNG (300 DPI minimum using Adobe Acrobat, Preview, or an online converter). Upload the PNG to the vectorizer to produce a clean SVG. Download the SVG and upload it to Cricut Design Space.
SVG compatibility for Cricut: Cricut Design Space accepts SVG files with filled shapes (for engrave and write operations), stroke paths (for cut), and multiple colour layers (each colour creates a separate Cricut operation layer). Remove SVG text elements and convert text to paths in Inkscape before uploading — Cricut does not embed fonts from SVG.
After uploading SVG to Cricut Design Space: select Cut Image when prompted. Cricut reads each colour layer as a separate mat layer. Assign materials per layer (vinyl, cardstock, etc.) in the Make It screen.
