About SVG for Cricut decals

How Cricut vinyl decals work:

Cricut vinyl decals are cut from adhesive vinyl roll using the Cricut machine following SVG cut paths. After cutting and weeding, a transfer tape layer is applied over the design, which carries it from the vinyl liner to the application surface (wall, window, car, mug).

SVG requirements for vinyl decals: - Single continuous contour: for simple monochrome decals, the SVG should contain one clean outer path per design element. Interior cutouts (such as inside letter apertures) must be separate paths. - Path offset: consider adding a 0.5–1 mm outward offset to compensate for transfer tape application misalignment on complex multi-piece designs. - No background: remove any background rectangle before exporting the SVG. - Resolution independence: the SVG scales freely — confirm design dimensions in Design Space before cutting to avoid unexpected size differences.

Vinyl types for Cricut decals: - Permanent adhesive vinyl (e.g., Oracal 651): for outdoor and waterproof applications. - Removable vinyl (e.g., Oracal 631): for walls and smooth indoor surfaces. - Cricut Smart Vinyl: for use without a cutting mat on Explore 3 and Maker 3.

Application tips: Clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol before applying. Use a squeegee to press the transfer tape and design firmly, then peel the tape at 45 degrees.
