How to Flatten SVG for Cricut
Flatten in Cricut Design Space merges all selected layers into a single flat Print Then Cut layer. Unlike Weld, Flatten preserves the visual appearance of all layers as a printable image with one contour cut line around the outer edge.
About How to flatten SVG for Cricut
Flatten in Cricut Design Space merges all selected layers into a single flat image layer for Print Then Cut projects. Unlike Weld, Flatten preserves the visual appearance of all layers as a printable image but removes individual cut paths — replacing them with a single contour cut line around the outer edge.
When to use Flatten: use Flatten for Print Then Cut stickers, labels, and multi-colour designs where you want the printer to reproduce all colours and the Cricut to cut one outer contour shape around the entire printed design.
How to Flatten in Design Space: place and arrange all layers on the canvas as you want them to appear. Select all layers (Shift-click or use Select All in the Layers panel). Click Flatten (bottom of Layers panel). All selected layers merge into a single Print Then Cut layer. The layer shows the full colour preview of the merged design with a cut outline. In the Make It screen, Design Space sends the flattened design to your home printer for printing, then to the Cricut for contour cutting.
Flatten requirements: all layers must be attached or grouped before flattening. Layers at different positions on the canvas will appear offset in the flattened result. After flattening, you cannot un-flatten — all layer information is merged. Keep a copy of the original un-flattened design before applying Flatten.
Print Then Cut setup: after flattening, set material to Printable Vinyl or Print Then Cut material in the Make It screen. Cricut prints the design and then cuts the contour automatically using its registration mark sensor.
