How to Convert a Logo to AI

An Adobe Illustrator AI file is the professional standard for logo delivery. Converting a PNG or JPEG logo to AI means vectorizing it first to get clean paths, then saving the result in Illustrator's native format.

About How to convert a logo to AI

AI (Adobe Illustrator) format is a PDF-compatible vector container used as the master file format for logos in professional brand identity work. Print suppliers, brand guidelines, and designers all prefer AI files because they are editable, scalable, and contain all the structure of the vector design.

Step 1 — Vectorize the logo Upload the PNG or JPEG logo to the Logo Vectorizer. The tool traces the raster logo into clean SVG paths with separated color fills. Download the SVG.

Step 2 — Open in Adobe Illustrator File > Open (or File > Place) the SVG in an Illustrator document. The SVG imports as native vector content — all paths are editable with the Direct Selection tool.

Step 3 — Save as AI File > Save As > Adobe Illustrator (.ai). In the dialog, keep 'Create PDF Compatible File' checked for maximum compatibility with other applications.

Step 4 — Clean up (optional but recommended) After saving the initial AI, review the paths: simplify where the trace produced excess anchor points (Object > Path > Simplify), confirm all text is converted to outlines (Type > Create Outlines), and verify the artboard matches the logo dimensions.

Delivering the AI: include the AI file, a companion PDF, and an SVG for the logo delivery package. This covers all common design application needs without additional conversion steps.
