Why PNG images need to be converted for Cricut cutting:
PNG is a raster format — it stores image data as a pixel grid with no path information. Cricut Design Space can import PNG files, but only as print-then-cut elements limited to 9.25 × 6.75 inches. For full-size vector cuts across vinyl, iron-on, cardstock, and all other Cricut materials, an SVG cut file is required.

In Cricut Design Space, click Upload and select the SVG — each colour layer appears as a separate cuttable element. 4. Scale to size on the mat and assign material settings per layer.
Best PNG sources for Cricut SVG conversion: - Multi-colour illustrations with flat fills separate clearly per colour zone. - Transparent PNG files (no background) produce SVGs without a background rectangle cut layer.
Avoid: JPEGs with high compression, blurry photos, and designs with gradient fills — these produce complex, difficult-to-weed SVG output.
