Vinyl cutting machines require vector files — SVG, PLT/HPGL, or DXF — to drive the blade. JPEG photos and designs must be converted to vector paths before they can be cut.
JPG to vinyl cutting file workflow: 1. The protected preview is available without an account; editable SVG export requires paid or complimentary access. 2. Import the SVG into the vinyl cutting software: — Cricut Design Space: Upload > upload file > select SVG format. — Silhouette Studio: File > Import > Import to Library. — Roland CutStudio: File > Insert Image > select SVG. — Graphtec Pro Studio / FLEXI: standard SVG import. 3. Check weld and merge settings to ensure all overlapping paths are unified. 4. Set cut parameters for the material and send to cut.
Remove the background first before tracing if needed. — Simplify complex designs to 2–3 colours in the vectorizer for more reliable cutting. — After importing SVG, zoom in to check for small unwanted path fragments. — For text in the design, convert characters to outline paths before cutting.
